Ghost-II Troubleshooting
updated 05/10/2026
The Autowatch Ghost Immobiliser is a discreet vehicle security system designed to protect your car against modern theft methods including key cloning, relay attacks and unauthorised vehicle starting. Depending on your vehicle’s make, model, year and electronic architecture, your installation will use either the proven Ghost-II or the latest-generation Ghost-III system. Ghost integrates directly with compatible vehicle electronics and requires a unique PIN sequence using selected factory buttons before the vehicle can be driven. With no additional key fobs, visible keypads or obvious aftermarket indicators, the Ghost Immobiliser remains discreet and extremely difficult for thieves to identify.
GHOST SERIAL NUMBER CONFIRMATION
Goal : To see if the Ghost is connected to the car and correctly communicate with the car
Sit in the vehicle and turn the ignition ON, but do not start the engine.
Have the 5-digit Ghost SERIAL NUMBER ready from the plastic card.
If there is no confirmation, switch the ignition OFF, wait a few seconds and retry carefully.
SERVICE MODE / VALET MODE
To enter Service Mode on your Ghost immobilizer:
- Turn on the ignition (without starting the engine) and enter your unique PIN code.
- Wait for the double flash on your dashboard or indicator light (confirmation the immobilizer is disarmed).
- Press your designated service button exactly 5 times in a row (e.g., driver's window up, accelerator pedal, or cruise control cancel).
- Look for 5 indicator or dashboard flashes to confirm Service Mode is active.
- Turn off the ignition.
Service Mode allows the vehicle to be started without the PIN, which is necessary for mechanics, valets, or airport parking. It will automatically deactivate and restore full security the next time you enter your PIN code, or if you drive over 31 mph (50 km/h) for more than 30 minutes (or time set with us).
Scan tools, recalls and OTA (over the air) updates must only be done in that mode.
PIN CODE CHANGE
learning a new disarm sequence
To change the PIN code on your Ghost-II, follow this step-by-step procedure:
- Turn on the ignition: Turn the ignition on without starting the engine (do not touch any pedals; just press the Start/Stop button until the dashboard lights illuminate).
- Enter your current PIN: Input your current PIN code using your vehicle's buttons.
- Wait for confirmation: Wait for the dashboard indicators or the Ghost indication lamp to flash twice.
- Hold the accelerator: Fully press and hold down the accelerator pedal to the floor. (Note: On some vehicles, like Land Rover/Jaguar, you may need to pull and hold the high-beam stalk instead of the accelerator).
- Re-enter your current PIN: While keeping the pedal (or high beam) held down, enter your current PIN code one more time.
- Enter Learn Mode: Once the indicators flash once every 3 seconds, release the accelerator. The system is now in "learn mode".
- Enter your new PIN: Enter your new PIN code (between 4 and 20 button presses). Wait a moment until the indicators flash 3 times to confirm the first entry.
- Confirm the new PIN: Enter the same new PIN code a second time. If the codes match, you will see 2 indicator flashes, indicating the code is accepted.
- Save and test: Release the accelerator, turn the ignition off, and wait about 5 to 10 seconds for the system to rearm. Afterward, turn the ignition back on and test your new PIN to ensure it works properly.
CONNECT TO YOUR PHONE TO GHOST
To pair your phone with the Autowatch Ghost-II, make sure you have your Bluetooth Pairing Code (found on the black emergency card provided during installation) and the Autowatch Ghost-II app downloaded. Follow these steps to pair your phone:
- Open the App: Ensure your phone's Bluetooth is ON, open the Ghost app, and tap the option to pair a new vehicle. [1, 2]
Enter Learn Mode:
- Turn your ignition ON (do not start the engine).
- Enter your unique vehicle PIN code.
- Wait for the vehicle's indicators to flash twice.
- Fully press and hold the accelerator pedal down.
- Enter your PIN code again.
- Press your Service button (the specific button shown to you upon installation) once. Your indicators will start flashing once every few seconds.
- Connect in the App: Within the app, the Ghost unit will appear (usually listed as "igl"). Tap it and enter the 6-digit Bluetooth pairing code from your emergency card.
- Finalize: Once successfully paired, a green authorization icon and online status will appear in the app.
GHOST EMERGENCY PIN OVERRIDE
Use this procedure if your normal Ghost disarm sequence is not being recognised.
- Switch the ignition ON.
Do not start the engine. - Press and hold the brake pedal.
- Using the accelerator pedal, fully press and release it the number of times corresponding to the first digit of your 4-digit Emergency Code.
- Release the brake pedal, then press and hold it again.
- Repeat the same process for the second, third and fourth digits of your Emergency Code:
hold brake → accelerator presses → release brake. - After the final digit has been entered correctly, the vehicle’s indicator signal should flash once approximately every 3 seconds.
- The Ghost is now overridden and the vehicle can be driven. The Ghost will also be in Learn Mode, allowing a new disarm PIN sequence to be programmed if required.
Important: Use the 4-digit Emergency Code, not the 5-digit Ghost SERIAL NUMBER.
Keep the Emergency Code private and stored somewhere secure (plastic card).
DIAGNOSTIC
If the normal PIN is not being recognised, the next diagnostic step can be the Emergency Override using the 4-digit emergency code supplied on the Ghost card. Autowatch specifically describes it for situations where the PIN is forgotten or a PIN button has failed.
The diagnostic logic is:
Serial confirmation passes → Ghost is alive and communicating with the car.
PIN fails → try Emergency Override.
Emergency Override works → Ghost itself is functioning, program a new PIN
Emergency Override also fails → Contact us.
If the override succeeds, the Ghost enters Learn Mode, allowing the PIN to be programmed again.
