Ghost Immobiliser – Customer Acknowledgement & Warranty

updated 01/11/2026

Customer Acknowledgement, Warranty & Support Policy

Important information for customers purchasing or installing an Autowatch Ghost II or Ghost III immobiliser through Positive Terminal.

At Positive Terminal, we believe customers should understand both the benefits and limitations of aftermarket vehicle security equipment.

This page explains the potential risks, product warranties, diagnostic procedures, technical support arrangements and responsibilities associated with your Ghost immobiliser.

Please read this information before purchasing or booking your installation.

This policy supplements our general Terms & Conditions. Nothing in this policy excludes or restricts rights under Australian Consumer Law.

1. Product Reliability and Customer Expectations

Autowatch Ghost is a well-established aftermarket security system installed in a large number of vehicles internationally.

It is designed to provide additional protection against unauthorised vehicle starting, including certain methods involving stolen keys, key cloning and relay attacks.

Although serious malfunctions are not expected during normal operation, no electronic security device can be guaranteed to operate without failure throughout its lifetime.

Positive Terminal takes reasonable care to assess compatibility, install the product professionally and test its operation before handing over the vehicle.

However, electronic faults and unexpected compatibility problems remain possible.

2. Risk of Vehicle Immobilisation

An aftermarket immobiliser may, in certain circumstances, prevent your vehicle from starting.

Potential causes include:

  • Electronic product malfunction.

  • Failure to recognise the PIN.

  • Worn or defective factory vehicle buttons.

  • Vehicle communication faults.

  • Software compatibility issues.

  • Installation related faults.

  • Unrelated vehicle electrical problems.

A malfunction could occur unexpectedly, including when the vehicle is away from home.
In some cases, roadside assistance, professional diagnosis or towing may be necessary.
Positive Terminal does not provide guaranteed 24-hour roadside assistance.
We recommend maintaining suitable roadside assistance coverage.
Responsibility for recovery expenses and other losses will depend on the cause of the incident and applicable Australian Consumer Law.

3. Vehicle Theft Protection Limitations

A Ghost immobiliser is an additional theft deterrent, not a guarantee against vehicle theft.

Although the Ghost is designed to prevent unauthorised starting, it cannot prevent every possible theft method.

For example:

  • A vehicle may still be pushed, lifted or towed.

  • A thief may enter or damage the vehicle without starting it.

  • A determined or knowledgeable offender may attempt to defeat security equipment.

  • Someone experienced with similar systems may attempt to locate, disable or remove the immobiliser.

  • New theft techniques may emerge.

Positive Terminal does not represent any immobiliser as completely theft-proof.

Customers should maintain appropriate vehicle insurance and consider complementary security measures such as GPS tracking and independent alarms.

Positive Terminal is not automatically responsible for a theft merely because a security system has been installed. Any legal responsibility depends on the circumstances.

4. Vehicle Electronics and Future Compatibility

Ghost immobilisers integrate with compatible vehicle electronic systems.

Future changes may affect operation, including:

  • Manufacturer software updates.

  • Over-the-air updates.

  • ECU or electronic module replacement.

  • Vehicle recalls.

  • Third-party electronic modifications.

  • Changes to vehicle communication systems.

Compatibility is assessed using information reasonably available at the time of installation.
Permanent compatibility with every future vehicle software version cannot be guaranteed.
Where a compatibility issue is reported, Positive Terminal may investigate the problem and consult specialist technical support.
Any applicable warranty or consumer guarantee remedy remains available.

5. Australian Distributor – Dynamco

Dynamco operates as Ghost Australia and is the Australian distributor and technical support representative for Autowatch Ghost products.

Positive Terminal may consult Dynamco regarding:

  • Suspected manufacturing defects.

  • Unusual product behaviour.

  • Vehicle compatibility concerns.

  • Specialist technical investigations.

  • Product warranty assessments.

Positive Terminal remains the primary point of contact for customers who purchased their Ghost installation from us.

Customers are not required to pursue the distributor directly instead of exercising their applicable consumer rights against Positive Terminal.

6. Two-Year Product Warranty

Ghost immobilisers supplied and installed by Positive Terminal include a two-year product warranty from the installation date.

This commercial warranty covers eligible manufacturing defects, subject to the applicable warranty conditions.

Where a covered product defect is confirmed, Positive Terminal will coordinate the appropriate remedy.

Where replacement is appropriate under our warranty commitment, the replacement immobiliser and associated removal, installation, configuration and testing labour are provided without charge.

Dynamco's Commercial Warranty

Dynamco's published warranty provides repair or replacement for eligible product defects.

Its commercial warranty excludes certain ordinary mobile service, installation labour and transport costs.

These distributor conditions do not remove Positive Terminal's separate warranty commitments or statutory obligations.

After Two Years

After the commercial product warranty expires, replacement or repair may be chargeable unless a continuing statutory remedy applies.

Australian Consumer Law rights may extend beyond the stated warranty period depending on the circumstances.

7. Two-Year Installation Workmanship Warranty

Positive Terminal provides a two-year workmanship warranty on installation labour.

This covers eligible installation defects involving:

  • Wiring connections.

  • Installation errors.

  • Mechanical fixtures.

  • Mounting of supplied components.

  • Other workmanship defects attributable to our installation.

The commercial workmanship warranty does not ordinarily cover unrelated vehicle defects, misuse, accidental damage or faults caused solely by subsequent third-party interference.

Each claim is assessed according to its circumstances.

The workmanship warranty is provided in addition to applicable Australian Consumer Law guarantees.

8. Complimentary Remote Technical Support

Positive Terminal provides ongoing complimentary remote technical assistance to customers who purchased their Ghost installation from us.

Support may include guidance relating to:

  • PIN recognition problems.

  • Service/Valet Mode.

  • Serial number verification.

  • Emergency override.

  • Bluetooth pairing.

  • Vehicle servicing precautions.

  • General operating questions.

Where practical, we attempt to resolve issues remotely before arranging an on-site inspection.

Detailed operating instructions are provided on our separate troubleshooting page.

9. Diagnostic Assessment Procedure

When a customer reports a suspected Ghost malfunction, Positive Terminal may carry out a technical investigation.

The investigation may involve the following stages.

Stage 1 — Preliminary Assessment

We review the customer's description of the fault, installation history, vehicle condition and any recent electronic modifications.

We may request reasonable preliminary checks to assist with diagnosis.

Stage 2 — Professional Vehicle Diagnostic Scan

Where appropriate, we use professional diagnostic equipment to retrieve available diagnostic trouble codes from relevant vehicle modules.

Stage 3 — Freeze-Frame and Fault Analysis

Where available, freeze-frame information may help establish the operating conditions present when a fault was recorded.

Stage 4 — Wiring and Installation Inspection

We inspect relevant wiring, power supplies, connections and installation components where appropriate.

Stage 5 — Ghost Isolation Test

Where safe and technically appropriate, we may temporarily disconnect or isolate the Ghost to compare vehicle behaviour.

Stage 6 — Assessment and Findings

We assess whether the available evidence indicates:

  • A Ghost manufacturing defect.

  • An installation workmanship defect.

  • A compatibility problem.

  • A vehicle factory-button problem.

  • An unrelated vehicle electrical or mechanical fault.

No single diagnostic test is necessarily conclusive.

Intermittent faults may require additional investigation, and stored fault codes may remain after a problem has been resolved.

10. Factory Vehicle Buttons and PIN Recognition

Ghost immobilisers rely on selected original vehicle buttons to receive the customer's PIN sequence.

These factory components can wear or develop faults independently of the immobiliser.

Potential problems include:

  • Worn button contacts.

  • Intermittent switches.

  • Damaged steering wheel controls.

  • Faulty dashboard buttons.

  • Vehicle communication problems.

A factory button may appear to function normally for its original purpose while its input is not consistently recognised by the Ghost.

A PIN recognition failure alone does not establish a Ghost product or installation defect.

Where investigation establishes that the fault originates from an unrelated worn or defective factory component, associated diagnostic or repair work may be chargeable, subject to prior approval and applicable law.

11. Mobile Diagnostic Visits

Where a genuine Ghost product or installation fault is reasonably suspected, Positive Terminal may arrange an initial complimentary mobile diagnostic visit.

We may first provide remote technical assistance to determine whether an on-site inspection is necessary.

Where diagnostic work is required to fulfil an applicable warranty commitment or Australian Consumer Law obligation, that work will be provided without charge.

Mobile appointments depend on technician availability, location and the circumstances of the fault.

12. When Diagnostic and Callout Fees Apply

If an investigation establishes that the reported problem is unrelated to the Ghost product or our installation, standard diagnostic and callout charges may apply.

Examples include:

  • Unrelated engine management problems.

  • Vehicle battery or charging faults.

  • Mechanical defects.

  • Existing electrical faults.

  • Worn factory vehicle buttons.

  • Incorrect operation requiring an on-site visit.

  • Damage caused by unrelated third-party modifications.

Customer Approval

Any proposed diagnostic or callout charges will be explained and agreed upon before chargeable work begins.

A customer will not be charged solely because a suspected warranty fault is difficult to reproduce or remains inconclusive.

Charges will not be imposed where doing so would conflict with applicable warranty commitments or Australian Consumer Law.

13. Confirmed Faults and Available Remedies

Where a Ghost product or installation fault is confirmed, Positive Terminal will provide the applicable remedy.

Depending on the circumstances, this may involve:

  • Repair.

  • Reconfiguration.

  • Replacement.

  • Installation rectification.

  • Removal.

  • Refund or compensation where required by law.

Where replacement is appropriate under our two-year product warranty commitment, the replacement unit and associated installation labour are provided without charge.

Where a commercial warranty has expired and no continuing statutory remedy applies, replacement or removal may be quoted as a paid service.

For major failures, Australian Consumer Law may provide customers with a choice of remedies.

14. Roadside Assistance, Towing and Other Expenses

Positive Terminal does not operate a 24-hour emergency breakdown or vehicle recovery service.

If a vehicle becomes immobilised and requires immediate recovery, customers should contact an appropriate roadside assistance provider.

Responsibility for towing, alternative transport, loss of vehicle use or other expenses will depend on the cause of the incident and applicable law.

Nothing in this policy excludes compensation rights for reasonably foreseeable loss or damage where Australian Consumer Law provides such rights.

15. Technical Support Response Times

Positive Terminal aims to provide the following service levels:

  • General technical enquiries: Response within two business days.

  • Suspected Ghost fault preventing starting: Response within one business day.

  • Mobile diagnostic appointments: Generally within 3–5 business days, subject to availability.

  • Confirmed warranty replacements: Generally within 5–10 business days, subject to stock and technical requirements.

These are service targets rather than guaranteed emergency response times.

Where further manufacturer or distributor investigation is required, additional time may be necessary.

Applicable statutory remedies will be provided within a reasonable time.

16. Customer Responsibilities

Customers should:

  • Familiarise themselves with the operating instructions provided at handover.

  • Securely retain their PIN and emergency documentation.

  • Avoid disclosing security codes to unauthorised persons.

  • Inform servicing technicians that an aftermarket immobiliser is installed.

  • Follow the applicable Service/Valet Mode instructions.

  • Notify Positive Terminal of suspected faults.

  • Avoid unauthorised interference with security equipment.

  • Provide accurate information during technical investigations.

Failure to follow an instruction does not automatically invalidate a warranty or remove statutory consumer rights.

17. Customer Acknowledgement

By proceeding with the purchase or installation of an Autowatch Ghost immobiliser, the customer acknowledges that they have been provided access to this policy and have had the opportunity to review the information it contains.

In particular, the customer acknowledges being informed that:

  1. The Ghost is an aftermarket electronic security system.

  2. No immobiliser can guarantee complete protection against theft.

  3. Electronic malfunction or compatibility issues may occur.

  4. A malfunction may prevent the vehicle from starting.

  5. Roadside assistance or towing may become necessary.

  6. Factory vehicle button wear may affect PIN recognition.

  7. Future vehicle software changes may affect compatibility.

  8. Product and installation warranties have applicable conditions.

  9. Diagnostic and mobile callout fees may apply to unrelated vehicle problems, subject to prior approval.

  10. Positive Terminal does not provide guaranteed 24-hour roadside assistance.

This acknowledgement records the disclosure of relevant risks and conditions.

It does not waive, exclude or restrict any statutory consumer rights.

18. Australian Consumer Law

All products and services supplied by Positive Terminal remain subject to applicable Australian Consumer Law.

Consumer guarantees apply automatically and cannot be excluded by commercial warranty conditions or customer acknowledgements.

Customers may be entitled to repair, replacement, refund, rectification or compensation depending on the circumstances.

Commercial warranties are provided in addition to statutory consumer rights.

The expiry of a commercial warranty does not automatically end those rights.

Nothing in this policy excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, remedy or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified.

19. Contact Positive Terminal

For warranty claims, technical assistance or diagnostic enquiries, contact Positive Terminal.

Please provide your vehicle details, installation date, description of the problem and any relevant diagnostic information.
